Why Was I Charged, or Why Did I Receive, a Funding Fee on Crypto Futures?

Funding is exchanged between long and short holders every 8 hours, and you pay or receive it only if your position is open at settlement. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it is negative, shorts pay longs. It isn't a trading fee and doesn't go to Pluang. To avoid it, close before the next settlement.

Symptom / ConditionPossible CauseSolution
A funding fee was deducted from your positionYour position was open at a funding settlement, on the side that pays. With a positive rate, longs pay shorts; with a negative rate, shorts pay longs. This is expected, not an error. To avoid paying funding, close the position before the next settlement. The countdown on each contract shows when it is.
You received a funding paymentYour position was open at settlement, on the side that receives funding. No action is needed. Funding you receive is recorded in Realised P&L.
You can't find the funding fee among your trading feesFunding isn't a trading fee and isn't paid to Pluang. It is exchanged between long and short holders.Check Realised P&L, where funding is recorded.
The margin on your Isolated position went down without a tradeOn Isolated margin, funding is paid from the position's own margin.Watch that position's margin level. A large funding payment can push an Isolated position towards liquidation, so add margin to that position if needed.
You were charged funding just before you closed the positionThe position was still open at the settlement moment, even if you closed it shortly afterwards.Funding applies to any position open at settlement. Check the countdown on the contract before you decide when to close.

If the issue persists:

If a funding amount in your Realised P&L doesn't match the position you held at settlement, contact Pluang Care via live chat in the app or email tanya@pluang.com with the contract name and the time of the funding settlement.

Related questions:

Q: How often is funding exchanged?
Every 8 hours. Each contract shows a countdown to its next funding settlement, and you pay or receive funding only if your position is open at that moment.

Q: Does Pluang earn the funding fee?
No. Funding is exchanged between long and short holders. It isn't a trading fee, and it isn't paid to Pluang.

Q: Where can I see funding I paid or received?
Funding you pay or receive is recorded in Realised P&L, not in your trading fees.

Q: Do TP/SL orders affect funding?
No. TP/SL orders don't affect funding fees. Funding depends on your open position at settlement, not on any TP/SL attached to it.
