FAQ article

Are Commodities Profits Taxed?

Yes. Realized gains from Commodities on Pluang, including swap credits, are subject to income tax under PPh Pasal 17. A realized gain is the profit you lock in when you close a position. PPh Pasal 17 uses progressive rates, so there is no single Commodities tax rate: it depends on your total taxable income for the year. Pluang does not withhold this tax. Realized profit is credited to your USD Margin (Commodities) wallet with no income tax taken off, and you report and pay the tax yourself, typically through your annual tax return (SPT Tahunan). Pluang's guide at pluang.com/panduan-pelaporan-pajak can help.

  • Reporting guide: Pluang's tax reporting guide is at pluang.com/panduan-pelaporan-pajak.
  • VAT is different: The 11% VAT is charged on the JFX & KBI fee and swap charges. It is part of your trading costs, not a tax on your profit.

Related questions:

Q: Does Pluang deduct tax from my Commodities profits?
No. Pluang does not withhold income tax on Commodities gains. When you close a position, the realized profit or loss is credited to your USD Margin (Commodities) wallet with no income tax taken off. Trading costs such as the JFX & KBI fee, VAT and swap still apply, but they are fees, not income tax.

Q: What is the tax rate on Commodities gains?
There isn't a single rate. PPh Pasal 17 is a progressive income tax, so the rate that applies to your Commodities gains depends on your total taxable income for the year, including income from other sources. If you're unsure how your gains fit into your overall tax position, check with a tax consultant.

Q: Do swap credits count as taxable income?
Yes. Depending on the swap rate and your direction, a position held past the daily rollover can receive a swap credit instead of paying a charge. A swap credit counts as a gain that you report yourself, in the same way as the realized gains from your closed positions.

Q: Is the 11% VAT the same as tax on my profits?
No. The 11% VAT is charged on the JFX & KBI fee and swap charges, so it is part of your trading costs and applies whether the trade ends in a profit or a loss. Income tax under PPh Pasal 17 applies to your realized gains, Pluang doesn't deduct it, and you report and pay it yourself.

Q: How can I keep track of my Commodities gains for my tax return?
Keep your own records as you trade: for each closed position, note the date, the realized gain or loss, the fees, and any swap charged or credited. Having these records ready makes it simpler to report your gains in your SPT Tahunan. Pluang's guide at pluang.com/panduan-pelaporan-pajak can also help.
