What's the Difference Between Commodities and Pluang Emas?

Commodities and Pluang Emas both let you follow the gold price, but they work in completely different ways. Pluang Emas is spot digital gold: you own the gold you buy, there is no leverage and no swap, and it is the product for holding gold over the long term. Commodities is a leveraged derivative: you trade a contract on the price of gold (XAUUSD), silver (XAGUSD) or Brent crude (UKOUSD) without owning anything, with leverage of up to 100x for gold, 20x for silver and 50x for Brent. With Commodities you can go Long to profit from a rising price or Short to profit from a falling one, and positions held past the daily rollover are charged or credited a swap. If your margin level falls to 50%, Pluang closes your worst-performing position in full, then checks your margin level again; if it's still at 50% or below, it closes the next one. Commodities is built for short-to-medium-term directional trading, not for saving. If your goal is to hold gold for the long run, Pluang Emas fits that goal.

  • Wallet: Commodities trades use only the USD Margin (Commodities) wallet, which is set up automatically with your first trade and which you fund separately in the Pluang app.
  • Margin call and liquidation (Commodities only): A margin call, the first warning, comes at an 80% margin level. At 70% you get a second warning, and new orders that add risk are blocked until your margin level is back above 80%. At 50%, Pluang closes your worst-performing position in full, then checks your margin level again. If it's still at 50% or below, it closes the next one.
  • Regulation for Commodities: Commodities is offered by PT PG Berjangka, a Pialang Berjangka (futures broker) licensed and supervised by Bappebti, and a member of the Jakarta Futures Exchange (JFX) under membership number SPAB/169/BBJ/10/2018. Transactions are recorded at JFX and cleared at KBI.

Q: Is trading XAUUSD the same as buying Pluang Emas?
No. XAUUSD in Commodities is a leveraged contract on the gold price: at 100x leverage, you put up margin worth 1/100 of the position's value, you own no gold, and your result depends on whether the price moves in the direction you chose. For example, at an illustrative gold price of US$4,300 per troy ounce, 1 lot of XAUUSD needs only US$43 of margin, yet your profit or loss follows the full US$4,300 value of that ounce. The order page shows the exact Est. Margin Required, which can be slightly higher than this simple calculation. Pluang Emas means you own the gold, with no leverage.

Q: Which is riskier, Commodities or Pluang Emas?
Commodities carries much higher risk, because leverage magnifies every price move. At 100x, a 1% move in the gold price changes a gold position's value by an amount equal to the whole margin you placed, in either direction. Swap charges on positions held overnight, and liquidation when your margin level falls to 50%, add further risk. Pluang Emas has no leverage, so no leverage magnifies its price moves, and it has no swap.

Q: Can I profit from a falling gold price with Pluang Emas?
No. With Pluang Emas you own gold, so your holding's value follows the gold price: it rises when gold rises and falls when gold falls. To aim for a profit when the gold price falls, you would need a Short position on XAUUSD in Commodities. A Short profits if the price drops below your entry price, but it loses money if the price rises instead, and that loss is magnified by the leverage.

Q: Should I choose Commodities or Pluang Emas?
It depends on your goal. If you want to hold gold for the long term, Pluang Emas is the product built for that. Commodities fits only if you want short-to-medium-term leveraged trading, you're comfortable going Long or Short, and you can monitor your positions and margin level actively. Commodities is high-risk leveraged trading and is not suitable as a savings or long-term product, so take time to understand how leverage, swap and liquidation work first.
