What Leverage Does Pluang Offer for Commodities, and Can I Change It?

Pluang offers leverage of up to 100x for gold (XAUUSD), up to 20x for silver (XAGUSD) and up to 50x for Brent crude (UKOUSD). You can't choose or change it yourself: Pluang sets the leverage for each instrument and may adjust it, and the order page shows the current figure. Leverage means you put up only a fraction of a position's full value as margin. At 100x, the margin for gold is 1/100 of the exposure (notional value), so 1 lot of gold (1 troy ounce) at an illustrative price of US$4,300 needs only US$43 of margin. The order page shows the exact Est. Margin Required, which can be slightly higher than this simple calculation. The same leverage magnifies every price move: at 100x, a 1% move in the gold price changes the value of your position by an amount equal to 100% of the margin you placed, in your favour or against you. Commodities is high-risk leveraged trading and is not suitable as a savings or long-term product.

InstrumentMax leverageMargin as a share of exposureEffect of a 1% price move
XAUUSD (gold)Up to 100x1%±100% of the margin placed
XAGUSD (silver)Up to 20x5%±20% of the margin placed
UKOUSD (Brent crude)Up to 50x2%±50% of the margin placed
  • Leverage and your margin level: Losses reduce your equity, and your margin level is calculated across all your open Commodities positions in the USD Margin (Commodities) wallet. A margin call comes at 80%, a second warning at 70% (new orders that add risk are blocked until your margin level is back above 80%), and liquidation at 50%. There is no single price move that triggers these levels: it depends on your equity and the margin in use across all your positions.
  • What you can control: You can't set the leverage, but you decide how many lots you open and how much extra balance you keep in your wallet as a buffer.
  • Separate from US Stocks: Commodities leverage applies only to positions in the USD Margin (Commodities) wallet. It is fully separate from the USD Margin wallet for leveraged US Stocks, and a loss in one never affects the other.

Related questions:

Q: Can I choose a lower leverage?
No. You don't choose the leverage: Pluang sets it for each instrument, currently up to 100x for XAUUSD, 20x for XAGUSD and 50x for UKOUSD, and may adjust it. The order page shows the current figure. If you want less exposure, open fewer lots and keep more balance in your USD Margin (Commodities) wallet than the margin your positions use. That extra balance gives your positions more room before your margin level falls to the 80% margin call and the 70% second warning.

Q: Does higher leverage mean higher profit?
Not by itself. Leverage magnifies both profits and losses by the same factor, so a move against your position hurts just as fast as a move in your favour helps. At 100x, a 1% gold price move in your favour adds an amount equal to your whole margin, and a 1% move against you removes the same amount. Fees also apply to every trade, and swap may be charged or credited overnight, so your net result differs from what the price move alone suggests.

Q: What does a 1% price move mean in US dollars?
It depends on the instrument and its price. At an illustrative gold price of US$4,300, a 1% move is US$43 on 1 lot of XAUUSD, equal to the full US$43 margin. At an illustrative silver price of US$70, a 1% move is US$7 on 1 lot of XAGUSD (10 troy ounces), or 20% of its US$35 margin. At an illustrative Brent price of US$80, a 1% move is US$8 on 1 lot of UKOUSD, or 50% of its US$16 margin.

Q: Is Commodities leverage the same as leverage on US Stocks?
No. Commodities has its own leverage and its own wallet, USD Margin (Commodities). Leveraged US Stocks use a different wallet, USD Margin, with its own rules. The two wallets are fully separate, so a loss on a Commodities position never affects your US Stocks positions, and the reverse is also true.
