How Does the USD/IDR Exchange Rate Affect My US ETF Returns on Pluang?
US ETFs on Pluang are priced in USD, so your return in rupiah depends on two things: the ETF's price change and the USD/IDR rate between your purchase and your conversion back to IDR. US Stocks and ETFs on Pluang are facilitated by PT PG Berjangka, a Financial Derivatives Trading Intermediary for derivative products with securities as the underlying asset, licensed and supervised by OJK. A stronger dollar adds to your rupiah return and a weaker dollar reduces it, even when the ETF itself gains. Converting between IDR and USD costs a 0.25% fee, plus VAT on that fee.
Example: the ETF rises 10% in USD
| USD/IDR move while you hold | Approximate return in rupiah, before fees |
|---|---|
| Dollar strengthens 5% | About +15.5% |
| Dollar unchanged | About +10% |
| Dollar weakens 5% | About +4.5% |
| Dollar weakens 10% | About −1% |
How the app shows it
Each US ETF in your portfolio stays in USD. Account-level totals can be switched to IDR, and there your unrealised profit or loss is split into Asset Gain/Loss, the ETF's own move valued at today's rate, and Forex Gain/Loss, the effect of the exchange rate on the amount you invested.
The conversion rate
Pluang's IDR–USD rate comes from its reference custodian bank and follows the market in real time. The spread can vary with volatility, volume and time of day, and the rate and fee are shown before you confirm a conversion. While you keep USD in your balance, its rupiah value keeps moving with the rate until you convert.
