How Are US ETF Gains and Dividends Taxed for Indonesian Investors on Pluang?
For US ETFs on Pluang, dividends are taxed at source, at 15% on non-leveraged positions or 30% on 2x leveraged ones, while gains from selling are net capital gains taxable under PPh Article 17. US Stocks and ETFs on Pluang are facilitated by PT PG Berjangka, a Financial Derivatives Trading Intermediary for derivative products with securities as the underlying asset, licensed and supervised by OJK. Pluang does not report your net profit to the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), so you report both your gains and your dividends in your annual tax return (SPT Tahunan). For your own situation, ask a tax professional or the DJP.
How each type of income is treated
| Income | Tax at source on Pluang | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Dividend, non-leveraged position | 15% withheld before the dividend is credited | Report it in your SPT Tahunan |
| Dividend, 2x leveraged position | 30% withheld before the dividend is credited | Report it in your SPT Tahunan |
| Gain or loss from selling | None withheld at source | Report your net capital gains in your SPT Tahunan; they are taxable under PPh Article 17 |
No tax slip (bukti potong) is issued for the dividend withholding, so keep your own records.
The Tax Report helps you fill in your SPT
Pluang's Tax Report for US Stocks also covers US ETFs. For each calendar year it shows your total realised profit or loss, total USD Yield and total dividends received, along with your year-end holdings. Request it in the app under Akun (Account) → Laporan (Reports) → Laporan Pajak (Tax Report): choose the year and the asset, and the report is sent to your registered email. A year's report is available once that year has ended, and you can download any past year.
Tax rules can change. For questions about your own return, consult a tax professional or the DJP.
