Can I Hold a Long and a Short on the Same Commodity?
No. Commodities on Pluang keeps one net position per instrument, so you can't hold a Long and a Short on the same commodity at the same time. If you already hold a position and place an order in the opposite direction, that order offsets your existing position, reducing or closing it, rather than opening a separate one. For example, if you hold 3 lots of XAUUSD Long and place a Short order for 1 lot, you're left with 2 lots Long. The profit or loss on the lot you closed is realized in your USD Margin (Commodities) wallet. You can still hold positions in different directions on different instruments.
- Same direction: a new order is merged into your existing position at a weighted-average entry price.
- Opposite direction, fewer lots than you hold: your position is reduced by that number of lots.
- Opposite direction, the same number of lots as you hold: your position is closed completely.
- Exiting at a price you choose: Commodities has Market, Limit and Stop orders. Under "More settings" → "Time in Force", you choose "Day (Good till market close)" or "GTC (Good till cancelled)". Take Profit and Stop Loss are coming; for now, you can place a Limit or Stop order in the opposite direction to exit at a price you choose, and it offsets your position. A Limit or Stop exit might not fill, though: orders fill in full or not at all, and one that can't be filled shows as Failed.
- Different instruments: each instrument has its own position, so a Long on gold and a Short on Brent crude can be open at the same time.
- Cross margin: all open Commodities positions share one margin level in USD Margin (Commodities), even when they point in different directions.
- Before you confirm: check the direction (Long or Short) and the number of lots carefully on the order screen before you slide to confirm.

Q: What happens to my entry price when I reduce a position?
It stays the same. When an order in the opposite direction reduces your position, the remaining lots keep their entry price, so the break-even point for what's left doesn't move. The profit or loss on the lots you closed is realized and credited to your USD Margin (Commodities) wallet. Only adding lots in the same direction changes the entry price, through a weighted average.
Q: Can I be Long on gold and Short on oil at the same time?
Yes. The one-net-position rule applies only within the same instrument. You can hold a Long on XAUUSD and a Short on UKOUSD, or any other combination across gold, silver and Brent crude, at the same time. Keep in mind that all of these positions share one margin level in your USD Margin (Commodities) wallet, so a large loss on one of them lowers the margin level for all of them.
Q: How do I reduce a Commodities position without closing all of it?
Place an order in the opposite direction for fewer lots than you hold. For example, if you hold 3 lots of XAGUSD Short, a Long order for 1 lot leaves you with 2 lots Short. Reducing a position lowers the margin it uses, which can help your margin level if it is getting close to the 80% margin call or the 70% second warning. The JFX & KBI fee and VAT apply to the lots you close.
Q: Does an order in the opposite direction cost fees?
Yes. An order that reduces or closes a position pays the JFX & KBI fee for closing: US$0.10 per lot, capped at US$1 per order, plus 11% VAT. Pluang currently charges no transaction fee on Commodities (0%). The spread is built into the price you get. The order summary shows the fees before you confirm, so you can check the cost first.
