FAQ article

How is my overall portfolio value calculated on Pluang?

Your Portfolio Value on Pluang is your Invested Amount plus your unrealised profit or loss. Invested Amount is the money you have actually put into your holdings; unrealised profit or loss is how much those holdings have moved in value while you still hold them. Adding the two gives what your holdings are worth right now. This applies consistently across asset classes, and it applies to leveraged positions too: for US Stocks held with leverage and for Crypto Futures, Portfolio Value reflects your own Invested Amount plus unrealised profit or loss, not the full exposure of the position including borrowed funds. Your Portfolio Value therefore tracks your own money at work rather than the gross size of your positions. Alongside it, Lifetime Realised P&L records the profit and loss you have already locked in by closing positions.

The two building blocks:

ComponentWhat it means
Invested AmountThe money you have actually put into your holdings — your own capital, excluding any borrowed funds
Unrealised profit or lossHow far your holdings have moved in value while you still hold them; changes continuously with market prices
Portfolio ValueInvested Amount + unrealised profit or loss

How leveraged positions are valued. With leverage, part of your position is funded by borrowed money, so the position's full size — its exposure — is larger than the amount you put in. Portfolio Value is based on your Invested Amount, so it shows your own capital plus its gain or loss rather than the gross position size. For a US Stock position opened at US$10,000 using 4x leverage and currently up US$500, the Invested Amount is US$2,500, the borrowed portion is US$7,500, exposure is US$10,000, and Portfolio Value is US$3,000 — your US$2,500 plus the US$500 gain. Your exposure, leverage ratio and margin are unaffected by how the value is displayed.

Realised versus unrealised. Unrealised profit or loss belongs to positions you still hold and moves with the market. Once you close a position, that result becomes realised and stops moving. Lifetime Realised P&L is the running total of everything you have locked in, including your Crypto Futures trading history, which is counted toward the same combined figure rather than tracked only in the separate Futures tab.

  • Cash and holdings are shown distinctly. Balances that behave like cash are presented separately from the assets you hold for growth, so you can tell at a glance which part of your money is invested and which is sitting available.
  • Consistency is the goal. Valuing positions from Invested Amount rather than gross exposure follows the convention used across the investment and finance industry, and keeps calculations consistent across Pluang products.
  • As of 31 August 2026 this is the calculation method applied across Pluang's portfolio display.

Related questions:

Q: What is the difference between Invested Amount and Portfolio Value?
Invested Amount is the capital you have put into your holdings — your own money, excluding anything borrowed. Portfolio Value is that same Invested Amount plus whatever unrealised profit or loss your holdings have accumulated since. If your holdings have gained, Portfolio Value sits above Invested Amount; if they have lost, it sits below. Invested Amount only moves when you add or withdraw capital, while Portfolio Value moves with the market.

Q: Why does Portfolio Value reflect my Invested Amount rather than my full position size?
Because Portfolio Value is designed to show your own money at work. With 4x leverage, three quarters of the position is funded by borrowed money, so the position's gross size reflects the loan as much as your capital. Building the figure from your Invested Amount instead means it tracks what you actually committed and what that capital has earned, which is the convention used across the investment and finance industry.

Q: Does my exposure change because of how Portfolio Value is calculated?
No. Exposure is the full notional size of your position and it is determined by your position size and leverage ratio, not by how your portfolio is displayed. Your exposure, your leverage, your margin and your potential profit or loss all work independently of the Portfolio Value figure. The calculation method affects what number you see, not the position itself.

Q: What does Lifetime Realised P&L include?
It is the running total of profit and loss you have locked in by closing positions, across your Pluang account. Results from your Crypto Futures trading are counted toward this same combined figure rather than being tracked only in the separate Futures tab. Because it covers closed positions, it does not move with the market — unlike unrealised profit or loss, which changes continuously while you still hold something.

Q: Does Portfolio Value include what I have already sold?
No. Portfolio Value covers what you currently hold — your Invested Amount plus the unrealised profit or loss on those holdings. Anything you have already sold or closed has left that figure and been recorded in Lifetime Realised P&L instead. The two are complementary: one shows where your money stands today, the other shows what your closed trading has produced over time.
