Does OJK Compensate Losses If an Investment App Stops Operating?
No, OJK does not compensate investors for losses, whether they come from falling prices or from an investment app closing down. OJK's role is to license, regulate and supervise financial companies and to handle consumer complaints, not to guarantee investments. Separately, some products are covered by specific protection schemes, whichever licensed app you use them through. For Indonesian stocks, shares are recorded in the investor's own name at KSEI, and SIPF can compensate up to Rp100,000,000 per investor for assets that are lost. Cash in a bank account, including an RDN, is guaranteed by LPS up to Rp2,000,000,000 per customer per bank, subject to LPS's conditions. None of these schemes covers losses from falling prices, and none of them applies to an unlicensed app. That is why checking that an app is licensed by OJK or Bappebti before you deposit money matters so much.
What each protection covers
| Protection | What it covers | What it does not cover |
|---|---|---|
| OJK supervision | Licensing and supervising financial companies, and handling consumer complaints | Investment losses |
| SIPF | Up to Rp100,000,000 per investor for capital market assets, such as Indonesian stocks, that are lost | Losses from falling prices; crypto and gold |
| LPS | Bank deposits, including cash in an RDN, up to Rp2,000,000,000 per customer per bank, subject to LPS's conditions | Investment products such as stocks, mutual funds, crypto and gold |

Q: Does LPS guarantee my investments?
No. LPS (Lembaga Penjamin Simpanan) guarantees bank deposits, such as savings, current accounts and time deposits, up to Rp2,000,000,000 per customer per bank, subject to LPS's conditions. Investment products such as stocks, mutual funds, crypto and gold are not bank deposits, so LPS does not guarantee their value. Cash sitting in your RDN is a bank deposit, so it is covered within the LPS limit.
Q: What is SIPF?
SIPF (Securities Investor Protection Fund) is a protection fund for capital market investors in Indonesia. It can compensate up to Rp100,000,000 per investor when securities or cash held in a securities account are lost, for example through a securities company's or custodian's failure. It does not cover losses from falling share prices, and it applies to the capital market, such as Indonesian stocks, not to crypto or gold.
Q: What can OJK do for me if I have a problem with an app?
OJK handles consumer complaints about the companies it supervises. Contact the company first, for Pluang through Pluang Care, and if the problem is not resolved, you can contact Kontak OJK on 157 or WhatsApp 081-157-157-157. For products supervised by Bappebti, such as gold, complaints go to Bappebti. OJK can act on how a company treats you, but it does not refund investment losses.
Q: What happens to money in an unlicensed app?
No Indonesian regulator supervises an unlicensed app, so none of the protections above applies, and there is no scheme to compensate you if it freezes withdrawals or disappears. If you have deposited money into one, stop adding more and report it to Kontak OJK or satgaspasti@ojk.go.id as soon as you can, so the authorities can follow up. If you were defrauded, also report it to the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre at iasc.ojk.go.id so the receiving accounts can be blocked quickly.
