Why Was My Options Position Closed Automatically?
The usual reason is Pluang's expiry-day force-close: any options position still open on its expiry date is closed automatically roughly one hour before market close, rather than being left to run to a passive settlement. This is standard behaviour, not an error, and it applies whether the contract is profitable or worthless.
| Symptom / Condition | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Position disappeared on its expiry date, near the end of the session | Pluang's expiry-day force-close — open positions are closed roughly 1 hour before market close | This is expected behaviour. To control the exit price and timing next time, submit your own Sell to Close or Buy to Close order before that cutoff |
| Position closed at a price lower than you expected | The force-close executed at the prevailing market price at that moment, not at a price you chose | Check the executed price in your transaction history. Closing your own position earlier, with a limit order, is the way to control the price you accept |
| A short position closed before the expiry date, and the underlying moved in your holdings | You were assigned — the buyer exercised, so the contract was fulfilled at the strike price | This is assignment, not a force-close. Pluang's options are American-style, so it can happen any time before expiry. Close short positions with Buy to Close to end that risk |
| Position closed and the proceeds were zero or near zero | The contract was out-of-the-money at expiry, so it had no intrinsic value left to realise | This is the normal outcome for an OTM contract at expiry. The loss is the premium originally paid, plus the transaction fees on both legs |

Q: Can I stop Pluang from force-closing my position at expiry?
There is no setting for it, but closing the position yourself before the expiry-day cutoff leaves nothing for the force-close to act on.
Q: Was I charged a fee on the automatic close?
Yes. A force-close is still a transaction, so the standard 0.3% fee with its $3.00 minimum applies just as it would to your own order.
Q: How do I tell whether I was force-closed or assigned?
Check the date. A force-close happens on the expiry date itself; an assignment can occur any time earlier and moves the underlying in your holdings.
