Perioperative apalutamide plus ADT cuts risk of prostate cancer recurrence or death by 62% versus surgery alone

New Phase 3 PROTEUS substudy results show that adding apalutamide plus androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) before and after surgery reduces the risk of prostate cancer recurrence or death by 62% compared to surgery alone in high-risk localized or locally advanced prostate cancer patients. The treatment also lowered the risk of metastasis or death by 51% and doubled the number of patients free from additional therapy at three years. These findings, presented at ESMO 2026 and building on earlier ASCO data, suggest perioperative apalutamide plus ADT could improve long-term outcomes beyond surgery alone. Further follow-up is ongoing to assess overall survival.

Following Johnson & Johnson's announcement of promising Phase 3 results for ERLEADA® in prostate cancer treatment, JNJ shares are trading at USD 263.81 on Pluang as of Oct 24, 2026 20:02 WIB, down 1.42% for the day. The stock holds a market cap of $635.07 billion and a dividend yield of 2.03%, with a typical hold time of 129 days. Despite the recent decline, investor interest remains active with 78% of orders to sell and 22% to buy.
