Spot Bitcoin ETFs see $462M outflows amid rising Fed rate hike odds

Spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced $462.7 million in net outflows from September 8 to 11, reversing nearly half of the previous week's inflows. This shift coincides with markets pricing in an 87% chance of a 25-basis-point rate hike at the upcoming September 16 Federal Reserve meeting, prompting institutional investors to reduce exposure to risk assets. The largest single-day outflow occurred on September 10, led by ARK 21Shares’ ARKB with $164.3 million redeemed. Despite this, total assets under management in spot Bitcoin ETFs remain robust, with cumulative inflows since January 2024 exceeding $55 billion, making the recent outflows less than 1% of total AUM. The rate hike expectations are pressuring Bitcoin prices and risk assets due to higher Treasury yields and a stronger dollar.
