Constellation CEO says existing power plants key to meeting surging data center electricity demand now

Constellation Energy CEO Joseph Dominguez emphasized that current power plants, not new projects, are essential to meet the rising electricity demand from data centers driven by AI growth, especially in Texas. With 55 GW capacity including 22 GW nuclear, Constellation sees untapped potential in the existing grid and is advancing battery and demand response solutions to manage peak loads. Texas faces a massive 474 GW interconnection queue mainly from data centers, highlighting urgent power needs. Constellation is also pursuing nuclear uprates and cleaning up its portfolio to support data center contracts efficiently.
