What's the Difference Between a Pre-Built Pocket and a Self-Built Pocket?

A pre-built Pocket is curated by Pluang and discoverable through the Explore tab, while a self-built Pocket — called a "Pocket Slot" — is assembled by you from your own asset selection. Pre-built Pockets are grouped by theme or strategy, such as Tech Giants, Dividend Enablers, or Hello California, and can hold up to 30 assets whose weighting is decided by Pluang based on the Pocket's stated strategy. Self-built Pocket Slots let you select up to 30 assets, organize them into segments, and set your own custom weighting for each one, or use a default weighting if you prefer not to customize. Both types are otherwise treated the same way: you fund either one through a one-time lump-sum purchase or Auto Invest, and can add more funds later via top-up, monitor performance in the same Portfolio → Pocket tab, and can sell your holdings at any time. The main trade-off is convenience versus control — pre-built favors simplicity, self-built favors customization.

Related questions:

Q: Which Pocket type is better for beginners?
Pre-built Pockets tend to suit beginners better since Pluang handles both the asset selection and the weighting for you, based on a clear theme like Growth or Dividends. Self-built Pocket Slots suit users who already have a specific set of assets or strategy in mind and want direct control.

Q: Can I change the weighting of a pre-built Pocket after buying it?
No, weighting for a pre-built Pocket is set by Pluang according to its stated strategy and isn't user-adjustable. If you want custom weighting, build your own Pocket Slot instead, where you set the weighting for each asset yourself.

Q: Do pre-built and self-built Pockets both count toward the same ownership limit?
Yes, pre-built Pockets and self-built Pocket Slots are counted together toward the same maximum number of Pockets a user can hold, regardless of which type they are.

Q: Can I switch a self-built Pocket to a pre-built one later?
There is no direct conversion between the two; a Pocket Slot is a separate Pocket from any pre-built Pocket. You can hold both types at the same time and manage each independently.
