Dollar-backed stablecoins USD Coin (USDC) and Tether (USDT) have become the leading payment methods for crypto cards, making up about 84% of total card spending as of mid-2026. This marks a significant shift from early 2024 when euro-backed stablecoins like EURe controlled most crypto card transactions. The growth in crypto card spending is rapid, with monthly volumes rising from under $1 million in late 2023 to $759 million in July 2026. The shift reflects increasing adoption of digital dollars in crypto payments, supported by expanding card programs and blockchain settlement options, although crypto card payments still represent a small fraction of the global payments market.
