Ethereum upgrade ends flat 21,000 gas fee for ETH transfers, raising costs for new addresses.

Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade changes the long-standing rule that every basic ETH transfer costs a flat 21,000 gas units. Transfers to existing accounts will still cost 21,000 gas, but sending ETH to a new, never-before-used address will require an additional 183,600 units of "state gas" due to the need to create and store a new account. This breaks the assumption many wallets and blockchain services have relied on, which could cause fee miscalculations or rejected transactions. Developers warn service providers to update their software before the upgrade reaches Ethereum's mainnet after testing on several test networks.
