US Senate Democrats accuse Tether's USDT of aiding Iran to bypass sanctions, raising compliance concerns.

U.S. Senate Democrats on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee accused Tether's USDT stablecoin of facilitating Iran's evasion of international sanctions. They highlighted that Iran's shadow banking network processed about $20 billion in transactions last year, though the exact USDT involvement was unspecified. The lawmakers criticized Tether for delays in freezing Iran-linked wallets, with some taking weeks and others not blocked proactively. Tether responded that it has helped freeze nearly $550 million in USDT tied to Iran and cooperates with law enforcement to block illicit funds. This issue intensifies scrutiny on stablecoin regulation and sanctions compliance in the U.S.
