The US SEC has postponed the launch of Nasdaq PHLX's proposed Bitcoin index options to conduct a full Commission review following a legal challenge from CME Group. The SEC staff had initially approved the product in May, but CME argued that Bitcoin options fall under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's jurisdiction, not the SEC's. The SEC has not ruled on the validity of CME's claims but has suspended the approval pending further review. Until the SEC completes this process, Nasdaq cannot launch the Bitcoin index options, which differ from Bitcoin ETF options by directly referencing a Bitcoin price index rather than ETF shares.
