EU bans Tether's USDT on licensed crypto platforms by Jan 2027 under new stablecoin rules

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has mandated that crypto firms licensed under the EU's MiCA framework must stop dealing with non-compliant stablecoins, including Tether's USDT, by January 8, 2027. This directive requires platforms to halt new trading and gradually wind down existing USDT services, though individual holders can still keep their tokens outside licensed platforms. Tether chose not to comply with MiCA's reserve rules, particularly the requirement to hold 60% of reserves in European bank deposits, leading to its exclusion from the regulated EU market. Traders in the EU must sell, convert, or withdraw USDT from licensed platforms before the deadline, while Tether loses access to a major regulated market but retains use outside these venues.

While the EU regulator sets a 2027 deadline for crypto firms to stop using Tether's USDT, Binance Coin (BNB) on Pluang trades at Rp13.612.568 as of Oct 08, 2026 19:32 WIB, down 0.61% in one day. BNB's market cap stands at Rp1.821,32 trillion with a 24-hour volume of Rp23,52 trillion, showing active trading despite regulatory pressures on stablecoins like USDT. The platform's order activity leans slightly towards buying at 55%, with typical hold times around 89 days, indicating steady investor interest amid shifting crypto regulations.
