Strangers send tiny Bitcoin payments with messages to wallets holding $1.4B stolen from Binance

After the theft of 18,270 BTC (worth about $1.4 billion) from Binance on October 29, 2026, the stolen Bitcoin has not moved but the 19 wallets holding it have received numerous small Bitcoin payments from strangers. These payments, each less than a dollar, include OP_RETURN messages—short notes permanently recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain—ranging from pleas for a share of the loot to token promotions. The theft, attributed by the FBI to North Korea's TraderTraitor group, has led Binance to pause withdrawals and cover losses using its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and reserves. While about $3 billion of the total $6.3 billion stolen assets have been frozen by law enforcement, the Bitcoin remains traceable but unfreezable, highlighting the transparency and permanence of blockchain records. The OP_RETURN messages serve as a public reminder of the hack and the ongoing investigation.

Binance Coin (BNB) trades at Rp12.930.845 on Pluang as of Nov 02, 2026 12:41 WIB. The coin shows a 1.56% gain in the past day, with a market cap of Rp1.694,7 trillion. Trading volume reached Rp23,3 trillion, and 68% of Pluang users are currently buying BNB, reflecting ongoing interest despite the recent hack news.
