Global warming could reach 2.6°C by 2100 without stronger policies; clean electrification can reduce it to 2.3°C cost-effectively.

A new analysis by the Energy Transitions Commission warns that without new political support, global warming will reach 2.6°C by 2100. Clean electrification, increasing electricity's share of final energy to over 50% by 2050 and reducing coal use, could lower warming to about 2.3°C at little or no extra cost. However, to stay below 2°C, additional actions are needed, including decarbonizing heavy industry, aviation, shipping, cutting methane emissions, and ending deforestation. Achieving the 1.5°C target requires costly carbon removal efforts. The ETC urges COP31 leaders to prioritize clean electrification and decarbonization of hard-to-electrify sectors to keep climate goals achievable and stimulate investment.

The call by leading economic representatives for global action on clean electrification and heavy industry decarbonization is set against the backdrop of the energy sector's market performance. For readers following the energy sector, here is Pluang's market snapshot as of Nov 06, 2026 12:51 WIB: out of 79 priced US energy stocks, 20 rose and 58 fell.
