US Treasury doubles long-term bond buybacks, yields drop, Bitcoin rises above $65,000

The US Treasury announced it will at least double its long-term debt buybacks starting September 9, raising the cap from $2 billion to $4 billion per operation for bonds maturing in 10 to 30 years. This move came after the 30-year Treasury yield hit a 19-year high of 5.337%, then sharply reversed to about 5.19%, signaling efforts to ease borrowing costs and support liquidity. The announcement boosted markets broadly, with stocks rallying and Bitcoin climbing past $65,000 as lower yields reduce the appeal of traditional fixed-income assets. The Treasury's buybacks aim to improve bond market liquidity without creating new money, and the market is watching if 5.3% will become a defended ceiling for yields going forward.
