Netflix growth slows with only 2% viewership rise in H1 2026, co-CEO eyes live content to boost numbers

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos acknowledged that the streaming service's growth is slower than desired, with viewership increasing just 2% in the first half of 2026. Despite this modest growth, Netflix is investing about 5% of its $20 billion content budget in live programming, which currently accounts for about 1% of viewing, as a strategy to accelerate growth. Sarandos defended the company's acquisition of Warner Bros, stating the deal was priced appropriately to deliver shareholder value. Netflix shares fell about 2% following the announcement.

Netflix shares trade at USD 68.43 on Pluang as of Oct 02, 2026 01:02 WIB, down 1.65% in the last day. Despite the co-CEO's remarks on slower growth, the stock remains heavily favored by buyers, with 92% of Pluang order activity in Netflix shares being buys. The company’s market cap stands at $289.73 billion, reflecting its significant presence in the media sector.
