Bitcoin ATM use declines amid fraud, high fees, and regulatory pressure in the US.

Bitcoin ATMs in the US have dropped from over 30,000 locations to around 19,400 due to regulatory bans, bankruptcy of operators, and compliance challenges. The North American Securities Administrators Association warns consumers about high fees (4-20%), hidden costs, and rampant fraud, including scams where victims are tricked into sending crypto through these machines. Despite their decline, Bitcoin ATMs remain a common entry point for first-time crypto buyers. As Bitcoin adoption grows, buying crypto via exchanges or digital wallets on smartphones is often easier and safer, with potential for traditional banks to integrate Bitcoin options into their ATMs in the future.
