A high-severity bug in Succinct's SP1 zero-knowledge virtual machine affected native Rust verifier versions 6.0.0 to 6.8.0, allowing malicious provers to submit invalid proofs that the network could wrongly accept. The issue was due to a missing check on data element counts matching their described dimensions. Succinct released version 6.8.1 on Sept. 24 with a fix and deployed it to mainnet. Developers using the Rust verifier with untrusted proofs must upgrade to 6.8.1. The flaw does not impact other verifier types like Groth16, Plonk, or the on-chain Solidity verifier. The bug was reported by Vitalis Salis through Immunefi's bug bounty program and publicly disclosed on Oct. 11.
