Meta settles lawsuit over Instagram addiction claims, trial to continue against Snap only

Meta Platforms has settled with a teen plaintiff who accused the company of designing Instagram and Facebook to be addictive, causing mental health issues. The settlement occurred just after jury selection began for a trial involving two teens suing Meta and Snap, with Meta settling with one teen and now with the second, K.D.B. This leaves Snap as the only defendant in the ongoing trial. The case is significant as it tests claims that social media platforms intentionally encourage addictive use, contributing to youth mental health problems. Meta and other tech companies deny these claims but face thousands of similar lawsuits. Previous trials have resulted in significant damages awarded to plaintiffs, and Meta has also settled other related lawsuits worth billions.

As Meta settles with a teen over claims that its platforms caused mental health issues, its shares on Pluang are trading at USD 619.34, down 0.83% as of Oct 30, 2026 23:51 WIB. Meanwhile, Snap, the remaining defendant in the ongoing trial, is experiencing a sharper decline with its stock down 6.87% at USD 5.29. Investor activity on Pluang shows 68% buying interest in Meta versus 100% selling pressure on Snap, reflecting differing market reactions to the legal developments.
