Aave's risk manager plans time-based borrowing limits after a $44.6M Wrapped Ether loan exploit.

Aave's risk manager, LlamaRisk, is developing time-based borrowing limits following a significant borrowing event where a wallet linked to Binance hot-wallet exploiters borrowed about $44.6 million in Wrapped Ether (WETH) within minutes. CEO Adam Sadowski said the system will restrict borrowing capacity over set time periods to reduce risk, though details on launch and limits are not yet disclosed. After the borrowing, Aave froze markets temporarily to prevent further borrowing while allowing repayments and withdrawals. The Ethereum Core market has since reopened with restrictions on USDT and USDC deposits that no longer increase borrowing capacity. This move aims to automate risk responses as AI agents monitor and act on exploit threats.
