United Airlines planned to install lie-flat premium seats on its Boeing 737 Max 10 planes, originally expected to start flying in 2020. However, certification delays have pushed the timeline to summer 2027, leaving the airline with hundreds of unused seats that don't fit other aircraft. Due to these delays, United has shifted focus to outfitting Airbus A321neo jets with premium seating for transcontinental routes. The airline now faces decisions on how to configure the Max 10 interiors once certification is finalized, with 167 planes on order.
