US Treasury targets crypto exchange MEXC for $16B in illicit funds, cutting it off from US banks.

The US Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has ordered crypto exchange MEXC Global to be cut off from the US financial system, citing at least $16 billion linked to sanctions evasion, cybercrime, and other illegal activities from 2021 to 2026. The ban, part of Operation Economic Outcast, will block US banks and payment firms from transmitting funds to or from MEXC, which already prohibited US users. This move pressures US financial institutions to screen for indirect exposure to MEXC, but it may not significantly benefit US exchanges like Coinbase or Robinhood, as MEXC's US user base was already restricted. The ban highlights tougher enforcement on unlicensed crypto operations tied to Russian and Iranian illicit finance.

Robinhood Markets leads with a market cap of $72.86 billion and a 3.21% gain on Pluang as of Nov 07, 2026 23:31 WIB, while Coinbase Global holds a $35.68 billion market cap but is down 1.51%. Despite the US Treasury's crackdown on MEXC Global for illicit activity, the impact on US-based crypto platforms appears limited, with Robinhood showing strong buying interest at 66% on Pluang. Coinbase's volume stands at 7,543,128, reflecting steady trading activity amid regulatory developments.
