Symbiosis's bitcoin bridge was exploited by a hacker who minted billions of unbacked synthetic syBTC tokens, cashing out about $336,000 in real wrapped bitcoin (WBTC). The attack halted BTC routes on the platform, but Symbiosis recovered 15 BTC and offered a 20% bounty to the hacker for returning funds. This incident follows similar hacks on the Liquid Network and Nomic, where unbacked bitcoin wrappers were exploited to create fake tokens. Symbiosis has yet to release a full technical explanation or confirm if the bounty was accepted.
