HUTCHMED announced that China's NMPA granted conditional approval for ORPATHYS® (savolitinib) to treat locally advanced or metastatic gastric cancer and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma patients with MET amplification who failed at least two prior systemic therapies. This is the first selective MET inhibitor approved in China for this patient group, addressing a critical unmet medical need as MET amplification occurs in about 4-6% of gastric cancer cases. The approval is based on positive Phase II trial results showing a 32.3% objective response rate and a median progression-free survival of 4 months. This milestone supports precision medicine in gastric cancer and expands treatment options in China, with commercialization led by AstraZeneca in partnership with HUTCHMED.
