$17B hedge fund cuts stock team, returns cash after worst month since 2020 amid AI chip stock selloff

Walleye Capital, a $17 billion hedge fund, announced it will restructure its stock-picking unit and return some capital after losing 5.9% in October, its worst month since March 2020. The fund's losses coincided with a sharp selloff in AI chip stocks like Micron, AMD, and KLA, though the selloff was not directly blamed for the fund's poor performance. Walleye plans to simplify its equity long-short strategy by cutting leadership and investment teams in that unit, while focusing more on volatility and quantitative strategies. Despite the selloff, fundamentals for AI chip companies remain strong, with solid revenue growth and optimistic guidance, though risks like supply-demand imbalances and higher memory costs persist.

Micron Technology leads with a market cap of $742.65 billion and a trading volume of 76,138,480 shares on Pluang as of Nov 06, 2026 23:21 WIB. Despite the hedge fund's October losses, Micron's stock gained 5.26% in the last day, while AMD and KLA also saw gains of 9.29% and 5.95% respectively. Pluang data shows a strong sell sentiment for Micron and AMD, with 83% and 86% of orders to sell, contrasting with a more balanced 53% sell activity for KLA.
