GM to launch new gas-powered Cadillacs, scaling back EV plans amid slower adoption and regulatory changes

General Motors announced it will introduce new gas-powered Cadillac models starting next spring, including updated versions of the CT5 sedan, XT5 SUV, and the return of the XT6 SUV. This marks a shift from GM's earlier plan for Cadillac to sell only electric vehicles by 2030, driven by slower-than-expected EV adoption and recent U.S. regulatory changes easing emissions standards. GM has taken $10.9 billion in EV-related charges since mid-2022 and is increasing production of gas-powered engines, including V-8s. The company also plans to expand manufacturing of full-size SUVs in Michigan, moving some production from Texas.
