Dogecoin excluded from CME's emerging crypto index due to lack of blockchain applications, despite higher market cap than Chainlink.

CME Group's new emerging crypto index excludes Dogecoin because it is a memecoin and its blockchain lacks applications that lock capital, unlike Chainlink which is included despite a smaller market cap. The index prioritizes tokens with actual usage measured by total value locked (TVL) on their blockchains. Dogecoin's blockchain only transfers value and cannot execute programs, so it fails the usage criterion. A new application layer called DogeOS is in testnet but not yet live, meaning Dogecoin's inclusion in the index is unlikely until this changes. Institutional inflows via basket products are expected to remain limited for Dogecoin, with single-asset funds showing minimal activity. The next index review is scheduled for December 2026.

As of Oct 14, 2026 01:42 WIB, Chainlink trades at Rp231,286 on Pluang with a market cap of Rp172.83T and shows a 1-day gain of 0.54%. Dogecoin, meanwhile, is priced at Rp1,508 and has a larger market cap of Rp235.33T but declined by 0.40% in the same period. Pluang data shows Dogecoin has higher sell activity at 44% compared to Chainlink's 17%, reflecting differing investor interest despite Dogecoin's exclusion from the CME index.
