New cryptographic advances could threaten Bitcoin's security in the long term, warns Ledger CTO.

Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet highlighted two recent cryptographic breakthroughs that could pose future risks to Bitcoin's security. One involves a new subexponential algorithm that might theoretically solve elliptic-curve cryptography problems more efficiently, though it currently poses no immediate threat to Bitcoin's widely used curves. The other is a significant improvement in quantum computing attacks, reducing the estimated resources needed to break Bitcoin's cryptography, but such quantum computers do not yet exist. These findings underscore the ongoing need to monitor and evolve cryptographic protections for cryptocurrencies.

While Ledger's CTO warns about future cryptographic threats to Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency currently trades at Rp1.392.721.242 on Pluang, down 3.58% over the past day as of Oct 31, 2026 04:21 WIB. Bitcoin's circulating supply is near its maximum at 20.1 million out of 21 million BTC, with a market cap of Rp28.011,03 trillion. Despite the concerns, Pluang users show a balanced sentiment with 58% buying and 42% selling, holding their investments for an average of 112 days.
