CME Group has launched 24/7 trading for Bitcoin futures and options on its Globex platform, eliminating the traditional Friday-to-Sunday market closure that caused the well-known CME weekend gap. This change aligns CME futures with Bitcoin's continuous spot market, reducing weekend risk and enhancing hedging for institutions. Despite this, liquidity remains higher in offshore perpetual futures and ETF options like BlackRock's IBIT, which still dominate the market. Three CME gaps from earlier this year remain open but the structural inefficiency caused by weekend closures is effectively over, marking a significant step toward more integrated and efficient institutional crypto markets.
