Bottomline has partnered with Chainlink to connect its $16 trillion annual payments network to public and private blockchains, allowing over 600 bank customers to access blockchain payment rails while continuing to use the ISO 20022 messaging standard. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) will manage cross-chain communication and coordinate payment workflows between traditional banking systems and blockchain networks. This integration aims to streamline cross-border payments by reducing settlement times and fees, though individual banks will decide how much transaction volume to route through blockchain. Neither company disclosed the number of banks currently using the service or the timeline for implementation.
