A new cryptocurrency called eCash (ECX) will be distributed to Bitcoin holders through a planned hard fork of the Bitcoin blockchain beginning around August 23, 2026. Developed by LayerTwo Labs, the fork will proceed in three stages—alpha, beta, and mainnet release—with practice tokens issued initially for testing. At the final mainnet launch near October 31, 2026, ECX balances will be assigned one-to-one with Bitcoin holdings at that time, without affecting Bitcoin itself. The project aims to enable sidechains for enhanced Bitcoin features while preserving Bitcoin's core rules, with success depending on community and infrastructure support.
