AST SpaceMobile shares drop 6% as SpaceX secures low-band spectrum, tightening competition for satellite phone links.

AST SpaceMobile's stock fell 6% after SpaceX agreed to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum portfolio that AST had been pursuing, closing off a key option for expanding its satellite phone service. This spectrum is crucial for direct-to-device satellite connections, especially indoors. While AST SpaceMobile loses this spectrum opportunity, it still holds mid-band spectrum deals with Ligado Networks. The deal awaits regulatory approval, and the outcome could impact AST's future spectrum plans. Other space-related stocks like Rocket Lab and Planet Labs were less affected, as their businesses do not rely on this spectrum.

As of Oct 09, 2026 21:02 WIB, AST SpaceMobile's stock is down 9.01% on Pluang, trading at USD 51.80 with a market cap of $17.07 billion. SpaceX shares have risen 1.56% to USD 163.08, reflecting a market cap of $2.18 trillion. Rocket Lab and Planet Labs also saw declines, with Rocket Lab down 1.54% at USD 67.35 and Planet Labs down 3.08% at USD 16.66. AST SpaceMobile's notable 9.01% drop stands out among these space-related stocks.
