Cross-chain protocol exploit drains $9M in NIGHT tokens via signature reuse vulnerability

Wanchain's Cardano-BNB Bridge was exploited due to a cryptographic flaw allowing attackers to reuse a legitimate signature to authorize fake withdrawals, resulting in the theft of 515 million NIGHT tokens worth $9 million. The vulnerability involved the TreasuryCheck validator's non-injective signed-message encoding, enabling multiple withdrawal requests to generate the same encrypted message. Wanchain has halted the bridge and confirmed the incident did not affect Midnight’s network or Cardano’s core blockchain. Despite recent spikes in DeFi exploits, overall losses have decreased compared to the previous year.
