American Airlines raises annual fees on two credit cards, adds new travel perks

American Airlines is increasing the annual fee on its Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard from $99 to $150, the first hike since 2018. The Citi AAdvantage Business Mastercard will also see a fee increase to $150. Along with the higher fees, the cards will offer new benefits including 3X miles on hotel bookings through American's portal, a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit up to $120 every four years, and a $100 annual credit on in-flight purchases. This move aligns with similar fee increases by other airlines and credit card issuers, reflecting the growing value and revenue generated by airline rewards cards. The new fees take effect on January 24.

American Airlines shares rose 2.30% to USD 12.48 on Pluang as of Oct 27, 2026 22:51 WIB, reflecting positive investor sentiment despite the fee hike news. United Airlines also gained 2.05%, trading at USD 102.75, showing strength in the airline sector. JPMorgan Chase was up 0.52% at USD 335.78, indicating steady performance in financials.
