Amazon plans to sell $8B in Nvidia AI chips and lease them back to boost its balance sheet.

Amazon.com is looking to sell about $8 billion worth of advanced Nvidia AI chips to external investors while leasing them back. This move aims to strengthen Amazon's balance sheet by transferring costly chip ownership to investors and adopting a more asset-light model. The chips will be placed in a special-purpose vehicle, with Amazon offering up to a 10% equity stake in this vehicle but holding no stake itself. This strategy allows Amazon to raise funds through debt issuance while continuing to use the AI chips in its data centers across the US.

As of Oct 02, 2026 21:41 WIB, Amazon (AMZN) shares are trading at USD 252.15, up 1.58% on Pluang, with a market cap of $2.68 trillion and a typical hold time of 126 days. Nvidia (NVDA), whose AI chips Amazon plans to sell and lease back, is priced at USD 237.21, gaining 2.75% with a market cap of $5.57 trillion. Pluang order activity shows a nearly balanced interest in both stocks, with Amazon slightly favored by buyers at 52%.
