The European Commission has approved RINVOQ (upadacitinib) for treating severe alopecia areata in adults and adolescents 12 years and older, based on Phase 3 clinical trials demonstrating significant scalp hair regrowth and improvements in eyebrows and eyelashes after 24 weeks. This marks RINVOQ as the first JAK inhibitor to achieve complete scalp hair regrowth compared to placebo. The approval offers a new treatment option for patients facing the physical and psychological burdens of this autoimmune disease. AbbVie continues to study RINVOQ for other immune-mediated conditions and is seeking FDA approval for alopecia areata in the U.S.
