When Will My US Stock Dividends Be Distributed on Pluang?

Timing depends on the company, not on Pluang. Most US stocks distribute dividends quarterly, but each company sets its own schedule and its own key dates. Eligibility is decided by the cum date: you must be holding the stock on or before that date to qualify for the cycle. Buying after it means you receive nothing from that particular dividend. Once the company reaches its payable date and releases the funds, the money travels down the distribution chain before it reaches you, and it typically lands in your Pluang account one day later. In some cases processing takes longer, up to seven days after the payable date. You can see the scheduled and completed dividend dates for any stock you hold in the Corporate Actions section on that stock's asset page in the app.

  • Frequency: Typically quarterly for US stocks, but each company sets its own schedule.
  • Cum date: You must hold the stock on or before this date to be eligible for that dividend cycle.
  • Ex date: From this point on, a new buyer no longer qualifies for the announced dividend.
  • Rec date: The date the company records which shareholders are entitled to the payout.
  • Pay date (payable date): The date the company releases the funds.
  • Arrival in your account: Typically D+1 after the payable date, and up to D+7 in some cases.
  • Where to check dates: The Corporate Actions section on the stock's asset page.

Related questions:

Q: What do cum date, ex date, rec date, and pay date mean?
Cum date is the last date on which holding the stock still makes you eligible for that dividend. Ex date is the point from which a new buyer no longer qualifies, because the stock now trades without the dividend attached. Rec date is when the company formally records its list of entitled shareholders. Pay date, also called the payable date, is when the company actually releases the money to those shareholders.

Q: How long after the payable date will the dividend reach my account?
Usually one day. Once the company releases the funds on its payable date, the dividend moves through the distribution chain before being credited to your Pluang account, and in most cases it lands the following day. Some cycles take longer, up to seven days after the payable date, depending on how quickly each step in that chain processes the payment. Dividends from non-US companies can take longer still.

Q: What happens if I buy the stock after the cum date has passed?
You will not receive that dividend. Eligibility is fixed at the cum date, so a position opened after it misses the cycle entirely, no matter how many shares you buy or how soon after the date you buy them. You would instead become eligible for the company's next declared dividend, assuming you still hold the position when that cycle's cum date arrives. Selling before the cum date has the same effect in reverse.

Q: Where can I see the dividend dates for a stock I hold?
Open the stock's asset page in the Pluang app and look at the Corporate Actions section. It lists dividend events for that stock, covering both the current period and previous ones, so you can see what has already been distributed and what is scheduled next. Bear in mind that the dates published by US companies follow US Eastern time, which runs roughly eleven to twelve hours behind WIB depending on daylight saving.
