FAQ article

What happens if I don't exercise my rights or warrants on Pluang?

If you do not exercise or sell your rights or warrants by the Trading End date on Pluang, they expire and become worthless with no automatic conversion, no refund, and no carry-forward — the unused position is simply removed from your portfolio. This holds whether the rights/warrants were allocated to you for free or bought in the market, where you also lose the purchase cost. To avoid losing value, exercise before the Trading End date or sell in the market while still trading.

Two outcomes if you let the deadline pass:

  • Allocated rights you received for free: no out-of-pocket loss — you simply don't gain anything. The right disappears from your portfolio after expiry.
  • Rights or warrants you bought in the market: you lose the full purchase cost. The asset is no longer tradeable and has no residual value.

To avoid losing value, you have two options before the Trading End date:

  • Exercise: redeem the right or warrant into shares at the fixed exercise price (you'll need sufficient RDN balance)
  • Sell in the market: sell the rights or warrants to another investor while they're still trading

For warrants specifically: if the underlying stock's market price is at or below the strike price near expiry, the warrant is "out of the money" and exercising would mean paying more than market value. In that case, selling in the market or letting the warrant expire are the rational options.

Related questions:

Q: Will Pluang remind me before my rights expire?
Pluang shows a persistent Portfolio page banner whenever you hold a -R or -W ticker. Always check the exact Trading End date on the corporate-action detail screen too.

Q: Can I get a refund for unexercised rights?
No. They're written off entirely — no refund of what you paid, no rollover, and no compensation of any kind once the deadline passes.

Q: Do my underlying shares disappear if I don't exercise?
No. Your underlying shares are completely unaffected — only the unused rights or warrant itself expires.

Q: What if I missed the exercise window by accident?
Once the Trading End date passes, there's no recovery process — the rights or warrants are gone for good. Track dates carefully or set a personal reminder.
