Why is the amount of dividends I receive different from what the company announced?

This can happen because of the difference in the announcement rate and the distribution rate. For example, CNQ shares, which are a Canadian-based company, will provide dividend announcements in CND (Canadian Dollar), while US stock dividend distributions are always in USD (US Dollar), so there is a difference in exchange rates that results in a reduction in the amount of dividends received.
