The ultimate parent entity of the Company is PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk (MCG). Meanwhile, MCG is jointly controlled by PT Provident Capital Indonesia and PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya Tbk, which are respectively controlled by Winato Kartono and Edwin Soeryadjaya.

Starting out in 1949, GMF AeroAsia originated as the Technical Division of Garuda Indonesia Airlines at the Kemayoran and Halim Perdanakusuma airports in Jakarta, Indonesia.
