This makes the Anker Brand the first and original Indonesian beer. The company has been changing hands from German to Dutch, and to Japanese, until it was finally established as PT Delta Djakarta in 1970. It has become and remained as a strong player in the industry. Today, PT Delta Djakarta produces Anker Bir, Anker Stout and Shanta Shandy as well as licensed brands San Miguel and Carlsberg. Distribution extends from Medan to Irian Jaya and from Jakarta to Manado. Collectively, these brands own a major share in the beer industry. PT Delta Djakarta was listed as a public company in the Jakarta and Surabaya Stock Exchanges in 1983. Today, shareholders include the city Government of DKI Jakarta and San Miguel Brewing International Limited.

The company was named NV. Netherland Indische Gaz Maatscapij when the Dutch took control in 1950. In 1958, when Government of Indonesia took over company, the name was changed to Badan Pengambil Alih Perusahaan-perusahaan Listrik dan Gas (BP3LG), and then became BPU-PLN in 1961. On May 13, 1965, the company was established as a state company and known as PN Gas. In 1984, PN Gas converted into public service enterprices (perum) under the name of Perum Gas. And in 1996 the status of company was changed to PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero).
