Energy stocks fall sharply amid concerns over new regulations and data-center growth slowdown after Democratic midterm wins

Energy stocks, including major players like Vistra and Constellation Energy, dropped significantly following the Democratic sweep in the midterm elections. Investors fear increased regulation on the energy sector and a potential slowdown in data-center construction, which supports energy demand. Analysts from Raymond James describe the election results as a major policy shock that introduces uncertainty to the ongoing artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion. Despite the selloff, some analysts caution that the market reaction may be an overreaction to the political changes.

As of Nov 05, 2026 03:31 WIB, Vistra Corp (VST) is trading at USD 120.34 with a sharp 1-day decline of 13.79% on Pluang. Constellation Energy (CEG) is priced at USD 246.89, down 6.27% in the same period. Despite the selloff, Pluang data shows a majority of buyers remain active, with 59% buy orders for Vistra and 91% for Constellation Energy.
