Visa and Mastercard back OUSD stablecoin, challenging their own card business with $1B liquidity

Visa and Mastercard have become founding partners in Open Standard's OUSD, a dollar-pegged stablecoin launched on four blockchains with $1 billion in liquidity commitments. The stablecoin offers fee-free minting and redemption, backed by reserves held at major banks, and shares reserve earnings with partners. This move positions the card giants to benefit from stablecoin growth while potentially disrupting their traditional card transaction business. The success of OUSD will depend on its market adoption against established stablecoins like USDT and USDC, with key metrics including circulating supply and transaction volume through Stripe, which has made OUSD its default stablecoin.

Visa and Mastercard's backing of OUSD, a new stablecoin, is presented here alongside Pluang's cryptocurrency market snapshot as of Oct 09, 2026 19:21 WIB: out of 50 major cryptocurrencies, 14 rose and 35 fell. Among notable movers, MANA traded at Rp1.657 with an 11% sell order activity contrasting its 89% buy activity and a typical hold time of 156 days, while CRV fell by 6.35% to Rp6.207 with a dominant 90% sell order activity and a shorter hold time of 62 days. SAND also declined by 6.21% to Rp1.224, showing a majority 69% sell order activity and a hold time of 123 days.
